When COVID-19 struck, the world came to a halt, but it also revealed a heartbreaking truth: children in vulnerable communities were going hungry.
Daily wage workers lost their income overnight. Orphanages had no visitors or supplies. Families in struggling neighborhoods were unable to feed their children even one meal a day. Fear and uncertainty filled the streets.
In the midst of this silence, Kalpaka was born—not as an organization, but as a feeling.
We weren’t experts, and we weren’t registered. We were just a group of people who couldn’t stand by while children were suffering. So, we decided to act.
With nothing but a car, a few friends, and whatever money we could gather, we gave what we could—food, masks, blankets, and sanitizers—to those who needed it most. It wasn’t perfect, but it mattered. We weren’t just distributing essentials; we were showing that even in the darkest times, humanity still exists.
Life slowly started to return to normal. Schools reopened. Streets filled again. But for many children, especially in vulnerable communities, hunger didn’t end.
During this time, Kalpaka continued its grassroots efforts, but we knew that to make a real, lasting impact, we needed to build something stronger—something sustainable.
On May 24th, 2024, Kalpaka officially became a registered foundation.
Because feeding hungry children can’t be a one-time response based on emotion alone, it needs consistency, planning, and a long-term commitment.
So we came back with a clear, focused mission: Feed Hungry Children.
Our first major initiative after registering was in Harinagar Slum.
Families here were struggling. Healthcare was hard to access, and regular meals were a luxury.
We partnered with Anjanapura PHC to conduct a free medical camp. We treated 109 residents, but more importantly, we listened.

Through this, we discovered that hunger was at the heart of their challenges. So, we didn’t stop there. We returned with ration kits—rice, pulses, oil—and carefully distributed them to families with children in need.
This wasn’t just a one-time effort; it was the start of something much deeper.
We visited Rajeshwarinagar Slum, guided by the Karnataka Slum Development Board (KSDB). This community is home to over 400 children and boasts an impressive school attendance rate of 98%.
Despite this, many of these children go to bed hungry. They often have only one meal a day, or sometimes none at all.
Even though some parents work in corporate jobs, they still struggle to provide enough food for their families. Rising costs and unstable wages make feeding their children a constant challenge.
Yet, despite the hardships, these children continue to smile, study, and show up to class—even on empty stomachs.
We spoke with families, teachers, and local leaders, and everyone welcomed our mission. The consensus was clear: feeding children should be the top priority.
Just like in Harinagar Slum, we’re preparing to distribute food kits in Rajeshwarinagar Slum.
But this time, we’re not just offering a temporary solution. We’re building a long-term model—one that listens, adapts, and provides consistent care for children over time.
We’re working with Anganwadi teachers, NGOs like Hasirudala, and the community itself to build trust and create a lasting impact.
Because a hungry child can’t study, can’t grow, and can’t dream.
We believe that no child should have to suffer because they don’t have enough to eat. That’s why we’re here.
Kalpaka Foundation isn’t just responding to a crisis anymore. We’re building systems of care—one child, one meal, one neighborhood at a time.
Because feeding children isn’t charity.
It’s our responsibility.
